can someone help me with a guitar student i have?
this is my first guitar student so, naturally, i’m having just a little bit of troubles. but so is she. she has a.. not so good sense of rhythm. also she doesn’t listen to much of anything except christian music, which i don’t listen to much of that so i have too questions really..
1) what can i do with her to help her sense of rythm?
2) what’s a way i can teach her regarding that we don’t listen to the same music and don’t know the same songs?
1) Start with really simple rhythms she can click or clap to. You don’t need to spend a long time on it, but choose an upbeat song and clap the 1-2-3-4,1-2-3-4 beats (or whatever the number of beats may be).
I’d even suggest you use a nursery rhyme to help grasp the basics. Once she progresses (and she will) it’ll all be a lot easier.
2) That doesn’t really matter. When learning an instrument, you’re bound to come across songs you have to play for grade exams, which you don’t like. There’s one called ‘Ode to Joy’, a song I needed to play to pass an exam, I didn’t like the song when I first started playing it and I still cannot stand it; but do occasionally play it for others.
Music is a diverse thing, try getting hold of sheets of various genres, some Christian, rock, pop, even try a bit of soul and classical.
