Guitar Questions: Solid-Body or Semi-Hollow Body?
I’m looking at splurging a little and buying a new guitar or amplifier. I was wondering what the main differences between a Solid-Body and a Semi-Hollowbody were, and if I would be able to get more tonal range purchasing a new amplifier. If it is relevant, I was considering the 30-Watt version of the new Marshall purple series. Any answers would be helpful. Thanks:)
semi-hollow body refers electric guitars with, obviously, a hollow body NOT a semi-acoustic guitar as the guy above me thinks.
A lot of Gretsch guitars are semi-hollow body.. solid body guitars are guitars with completely solid bodies fashioned out of one piece of wood or veneered from many pieces, but with no air in the body for resonance. Because of this they require the electro magnetic pickups in the body and amplification. Amps can provide more tonal range in terms of effects and dynamic processing (distortion and compression etc.) but semi-hollow bodies are desired for their unique tone also.
Google it man, and shop around! It’s all a matter of preference so If possible, go to a few shops and try some gear out!
